Toddlers fail to use prosodic information to guide their interpretation of novel verbs in ellipsis sentences
Résumé
Take home message : Children have trouble interpreting a novel verb inside ellipsis sentences differently from transitive sentences. This suggests that children's ability to use prosodic information to constrain their interpretation of novel verbs depends on the type of structure tested. More complex structures might take more time to be learned and/or require more cues to be correctly interpreted.
