Le parcours de Lotze en France. Débuts leibniziens (1858-1866)
Résumé
No specific studies have so far reviewed the reception of Lotze’s ideal-realism in France, in contrast to its reception in English-speaking countries. We address this gap by focusing on his early reception in France before the Franco-German war. How could Lotze be recognized as a major European philosopher as early as 1866 when he was chosen as a foreign correspondent to the Académie des Sciences morales, although his work had not been evoked in France earlier but by non-academical circles? Investigating this situation, the paper will stress the role of the philosophical reception of Leibniz in the context of French spiritualism.
